Announcing the Launch of HACII

We're excited to announce the official launch of the Human-AI Collective Intelligence Institute (HACII), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research institute dedicated to advancing democratic artificial intelligence through human-AI collective intelligence research.

A New Era for Democratic AI

At HACII, we believe the future of artificial intelligence lies not in replacing human judgment, but in augmenting collective human intelligence through carefully designed human-AI collaboration systems.

Our Mission

HACII was founded with the vision of creating AI systems that enhance rather than replace human decision-making capabilities. As AI systems become increasingly powerful and pervasive, ensuring they serve democratic values and enhance collective human welfare becomes critical.

Our institute fills a crucial gap in the research landscape by focusing specifically on how humans and AI can work together to make better collective decisions while maintaining democratic oversight and accountability.

Our research agenda spans three interconnected core areas, each essential for developing robust democratic AI systems:

Why This Matters Now

The rapid advancement of AI capabilities has outpaced our democratic institutions' ability to provide meaningful oversight. Current approaches to AI governance often rely on top-down regulation or self-regulation by technology companies, leaving limited space for democratic participation and collective decision-making.

HACII addresses this critical gap by developing research-backed approaches that enable meaningful democratic participation in AI governance while maintaining the technical rigor necessary for effective oversight of complex AI systems.
